|Early adolescence is a challenging stage in the development of all children. They are growing physically, intellectually, and socially more during these years than they have at any other time in their lives. The Franklin Avenue Middle School community recognizes this fact and provides students with the proper support and encouragement so that they may leave middle school with the skills requisite for a successful career in high school and beyond.|

Ms. Antonison recieved the New Jersey Science Teacher Association's Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award for the Summer Institute. This award provides a $1000.00 scholarship and 40 NJ Professional Development hours for a practicing teacher to participate in a week-long Institute.
This five day institute will be held on July 14-18 on the Busch campus of Rutgers University and will address the life sciences, next generation science standards, and technology. 24 teachers were accepted for the program and participants will investigate how organisms are structured, ecosystems, heredity and biological evolution. In addition, teachers will explore Student Growth Objectives (SGOs) and develop Problem-Based Learning (PBL) units specifically for their classroom.
The new NJ Model Curriculum for Science will be the foundation for Institute activities, and the program will follow current state guidelines for the introduction and use of technology in the science classroom. Teachers will receive resources for their lessons and receive a one-day registration to the New Jersey Science Convention, where there will be a follow-up session.
