Early adolescence is a challenging stage in the development of all children. They are growing physically, intellectually, and socially more during these years than they have at any other time in their lives. The Franklin Avenue Middle School community recognizes this fact and provides students with the proper support and encouragement so that they may leave middle school with the skills requisite for a successful career in high school and beyond.

FAMS: A Closer Look
FAMS is truly a wonderful place for children and our staff does a phenomenal job of offering an array of innovative and exciting programs.  In order to provide the community with a glimpse into the world of FAMS, we plan to provide various videos of classroom activities throughout the school year.  Our newest video comes from Mrs. Kristen Emmel, and her 7th grade Math classroom.

Living Lessons - May 19
Parents interested in volunteering for Living Lessons, please CLICK HERE to volunteer.

On Thursday, May 19, 2016, FAMS will host a program called "Living Lessons".  This event will not only be an innovative and inspirational day for every child at the Franklin Avenue Middle School, but will actually culminate an entire year-long program that has focused on achieving individual goals and success while touching on such poignant topics as self-control, respect, resilience, courage, anti-bullying and tolerance.  The “Living Lessons” program has been offered at FAMS on two other occasions in 2012 and 2014, and we are thrilled to continue spreading the spirit of Living Lessons 2016 through generous funding from the Franklin Lakes Education Foundation and financial support from the FAMS PTA, Franklin Lakes Education Association, and the Municipal Alliance.

In this way, we have assembled a truly dynamic panel of inspirational figures and everyday heroes who will visit FAMS on May 19th to share their unique and powerful stories.  While some of these personal journeys involve tragedy and unbelievable obstacles, the universal theme of the day is one of triumph and hope.  To this end, the day is designed so that the children will not only listen and learn from our guests, but truly be engaged in a community-wide positive experience that relates back to their own lives.

As you may know our new school motto, which was created by our own students, is If You Believe, You Will Achieve.  As a way of embracing our students' inspiration, this year's Living Lessons program will also incorporate this spirit in positive messages of living life to your own potential and being an amazing version of yourself.  In the words of one of our speakers, "Do You, be an amazing you, go where there is no path and leave a trail."

On Thursday, May 19, we are asking ALL STUDENTS TO BRING LUNCH due to the schedule changes for Living Lessons.

FAMS Girls Soccer Team Wins Championship!
The girls soccer team had a tremendous season winning the middle school Championship against Park Ridge with a score of 5-1. Emilia Capozzi scored within the first 3 minutes of the game. Guilia Marasco had back to back assists crossing the ball into Kaitlyn Skamis.  And Emerson Elgin also scored two goals to put the championship in the bag.  All the girls played such an awesome game and were determined to walk off the field as Champions. The Patriots ended their season with a record of 11-2-1.  This is the first championship for a FAMS girls' team in over 10 years.

Congratulations to Coach Banta and the Patriots!!
